Join The Philharmonic!
Bring your instrument, your talent, and your love of music — we provide the stage, the scores, and a community that’s as passionate as you are! Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a lifelong player looking for a new adventure, there’s a seat for you in the PSNJ orchestra.
PSNJ is a volunteer orchestra, which means we don’t pay our players — we play for the love of music, the thrill of performing, and the joy of being part of a dynamic ensemble.
But just because it’s volunteer doesn’t mean we take it lightly. We’re looking for musicians who:
Are proficient or advanced on their instrument — many of our members are professional performers, music teachers, or have music degrees.
Practice and prepare their parts so rehearsals are spent making music together, not learning notes.
Commit to regular attendance at rehearsals and dress rehearsals.
Are ready to work hard, collaborate, and have fun — because making great music is serious business, but enjoying it is mandatory.
If this sounds like your kind of orchestra, we’d love to hear from you! Keep scrolling for more information.
Auditions
Our Music Director and select section leaders will personally audition each applicant for a spot in the orchestra. Expect a mix of prepared solos, sight reading, and a chance to sit in with the section during rehearsal so our section leaders can see how you fit in.
Rehearsals
We rehearse weekly on Wednesday evenings, starting promptly at 7:00 p.m. at the Eastern Regional High School Performing Arts Center (1401 Laurel Oak Road, Voorhees, NJ), from early September through late April/early May.
Dress rehearsals happen the Friday before each concert, and occasionally on a Saturday before the concert. We send out the full season schedule every summer, so you can plan ahead and never miss a beat.
